PublicBenefit links the emerging trends in AI and data science with the real operational and informational needs of communities in Northern Ontario.
PublicBenefit is a lightweight, efficient organization focused on coordination—not duplication. We work with people who are already doing the work. Our role is to support, strengthen, and connect them.
We build bridges across non-competing sectors, share knowledge, and help unlock larger funding opportunities to accelerate what’s already working.
Our focus is on partnering with IT, operations, and data professionals embedded in local systems (especially those involved in community information and service delivery). We believe the future of ethical AI and digital public infrastructure depends on regional collaboration, shared design, and sector-led ownership.
Our current people priorities:
If you see yourself in our people priorities, or if you have ideas for how this work can improve, we’d love to hear from you.
You can help by sharing your expertise, volunteering time, or connecting us to funding partners and public agencies.
We welcome collaboration and informal support. Every contribution helps us build ethical, community-led tools that strengthen the charitable sector and serve the public good.

“PublicBenefit helps address some of the challenges I’ve seen over years of working with data, documentation, and coordination in the nonprofit sector. As a technical communicator, I’m especially interested in the data parsing and management side of this work. But what really motivates me is the potential of regional coordination. Having worked with both national networks and local organizations, I believe community-level coordination is one of the most effective ways to improve efficiency and support data and economic sovereignty in small to mid-sized communities across the country.”
